Marta Gibiete

Graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia in Riga, Faculty of Visual Plastic Arts (3D), Department
of Glass Art, 2005.

She has been awarded grants for creative works 10 times in the period 2002–2013 by the State Culture Capital Foundation (SCCF), and travelling fellowships by the Nordic Council of Ministers, Baltic Sleipnir, in 2002, 2007, 2008. She has received the Ebeltoft Prize in the International Competition Young Glass’97, Glasmuseet Ebeltoft, Ebeltoft, Denmark, and the Jutta Cuny-Franz Memorial Award, the Glasmuseum Hertrich, Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf, Germany, 1999. Nominated for the Art Academy of Latvia Award, 2011.

She has participated in 6 solo exhibitions and more than 100 group exhibitions, including the Young Glass’97, the Glasmuseet Ebeltoft, 1997; Spirited Approach: Women Glass Artists Today, Museum Kunstpalast, 2000; the Coburg Glass Prize 2006, Coburg, Germany, 2006; the International Exhibition of Glass Kanazawa 2007, Kanazawa, Japan; and the European Glass Context 2008, Bornholm, Denmark.

Her works can be found in the collections of the Glasmuseet Ebeltoft; Museum Kunstpalast; Ernsting Stiftung Glasmuseum (the Ernsting Foundation Museum of Glass), Coesfeld, Germany; the Latvian Embassy in Berlin, Germany; and the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, Riga, Latvia.

She loves cycling and gathering mushrooms.
