Lucian Butucariu

Graduated from the Nicolae Grigorescu Fine Arts Institute (presently, the National University of Arts Bucharest), Bucharest, Romania, 1982. Received a Ph.D. in Visual Arts Theory, 2007. He has worked in Bucharest as a glass product designer since 1982 and as lecturer at the National University of Arts Bucharest since 1990. Head of the Ceramics, Glass and Metal Department from 2012.

He was awarded the 1st prize by the Romanian Fine Arts Union (UAP) in Arts of Fire, Bucharest, 2002, and the 2nd UAP prize in Glass and Ceramics, the National Museum of Art of Romania, Bucharest, 1984.

His works have been shown at several individual and group exhibitions in Romania as well as at international group exhibitions, including: the International Exhibition of Glass Kanazawa, Kanazawa, Japan, 1988, 1990, 2013; Biennale Internationale du Verre d'Art Contemporain, Musée National Fernand Legér, Biot, France, 1991; European Glass Context 2008, Bornholms Kunstmuseum, Bornholm, Denmark; GLASPLASTIK UND GARTEN, Münster, Germany, 2010, 2013.

His works are exhibited in museums in Europe: Cotroceni National Museum, Bucharest; the Glasmuseet Ebeltoft, Denmark; Eskişehir Çağdaş Cam Sanatları Müzesi, Contemporary Glass Arts Museum, Eskişehir, Turkey.

His stained glass works are to be found in many public places in Romania. He is particularly interested in stained glass and colour studies in glass.
