Artis Nimanis
Graduated from the glass design class at the Riga College of Applied Art (currently: Riga School of Design and Art – RDMV), Riga, Latvia, 1999. Graduated from the Department of Glass Design at the Art Academy of Latvia, Riga, 2006.
A stipendist of the State Cultural Capital Foundation of Latvia, 2009, 2012, 2015. He has received several important international design awards, for instance: the Red Dot Award – Product Design 2013 for the an&angel collection, Germany; the German Design Award, Excellent Product Design category, 2014.
He has worked as a designer in multiple design and advertising agencies in Riga, 1997–2004. In 2004, he founded his own company, Angel Glass Design Ltd., Riga, where he works as a creative designer. In 2008–2014 he was employed at the Riga School of Design and Art (RDMV) as an instructor at the Glassware Design Department; in 2009 he was promoted to the Department Director.
He has participated in numerous individual exhibitions in Latvia, Finland, Mexico, and the USA, including: ART IS ART – a Latvian Voice in Glass, the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia, Washington D.C., the USA, 2014, and the Franz Mayer Museum, Mexico City, Mexico, 2015; Sun and Moon, the Finnish Glass Museum, Riihimaki, Finland, 2018.
He has participated in about 100 collective exhibitions in Latvia, China, Denmark, France, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, and Slovakia, including: the European Glass Context, Bornholm, Denmark, 2008; Katowice, the Silesian Museum, Katowice, Poland, 2013; Smog, the Shanghai Museum of Glass, Shanghai, China, 2015/2016; the International Glass Biennale 2D, Vilnius, Lithuania, 2016.
Glass vessels from collections Black&White and Northern Lights have been included in the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art, Riga. His works are part of various private collections in Latvia, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, the UK, and the USA.
He is experimenting with new technologies. Glass objects designed by him are minimalist, functional and unique.
