MELTING BODERS
Do we have to formally be included in a community in order to cooperate and take action? How many more borders do we need?
In the Baltic countries, we feel, more than ever, the need to stick together, to collaborate – to find strength in unity, crossing real and imaginary boundaries.
Glass is a material of many metaphors. Though hard and unyielding, it has the ability to melt and flow. It can form a barrier, but this is a transparent boundary which still enables visual information to pass through. It can convey a multitude of emotions.
By exploring the artworks as individual artists’ stories, it is possible to sense the heat of a “melting point” in the Baltic glass scene. The shared attitudes and historical backgrounds of the artists create a universally legible visual language which helps us to communicate with each other and raises questions about the current situation in the world.
Let’s try to melt borders...
