Artis Nīmanis

Graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia, Faculty of Visual Plastic Arts, Department of Glass Art (MA), Riga, Latvia, 2006.
Awarded numerous grants for creative work by the State Culture Capital Foundation (SCCF). Received several international design awards, including the Red Dot Award in the category of Product Design in 2013 for the “an&angel” collection, and the German Design Award in the category of Excellent Product Design, 2014. Received the Latvian Television and Latvian Radio annual award ”Kilogrammes of culture” in the category „Visual Art”, 2016.
Worked as a designer in multiple design and advertising agencies in Riga, 1997–2004. In 2004, he founded his own company, Angel Glass Design Ltd., Riga, where he works as a creative designer. In 2008–2014 he was employed at the Riga School of Design and Art (RDMV) as an instructor at the Glassware Design Department; in 2009 he was promoted to the Department Director.
Participated in numerous solo exhibitions in Latvia, Finland, Mexico, and the USA, including: “ART IS ART – a Latvian Voice in Glass”, the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia, Washington D.C., the USA, 2014, and the Franz Mayer Museum, Mexico City, Mexico, 2015; “Sun and Moon”, the Finnish Glass Museum, Riihimaki, Finland, 2018, and in over 100 group exhibitions in Latvia, Finland, China, Denmark, France, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, and Slovakia.
Glass vessels from his collections “Black&White” and “Northern Lights” have been included in the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art, Riga.
He experiments with new technologies, passionately strives to explore the limits of glass, and is relentlessly focused on his goals. He has developed an innovative and original method for combining glass and metal.
